Relation Registry workshop
January 8, 2010
Introduction

The purpose of this workshop was to identify use cases and requirements that will be used as input for the development process. The Relation Registry serves as an extension to the ISO 12620 DCR in what may be called the ontological domain. A simple use case however would be to use this to express equivalence between concepts from different concept systems. More complex usage scenarios have been proposed and we wanted to get a small group of experts together to discuss these and propose a strategy for further progress.

Agenda

Friday, 2010-01-08 (10:00 – 17:00 hrs)
  1. Short presentations:
    1. Adventures with the Owl and the ISOcat - Sue Ellen Wright (Kent State University)
    2. Relation Registry and Semantic Mapping - Alastair Burt (DFKI)
    3. A Three Level Representation Model for Concepts, Terms and Linguistic Objects - Thierry Declerck (DFKI)
    4. Modeling language resources in OWL - Laurent Romary (INRIA & HUB-IDSL)

Conclusion

We like to thank all participants of this workshop for their valuable input! We've identified 3 use cases for the Relation Registry which will be worked out in more detail the coming months:

  1. semantic metadata search (see the presentation by Alastair Burt)
  2. structural relationships between data categories (see the presentation by Jan Odijk)
  3. meta models (see the presentation by Sue Ellen Wright and the presentation by Laurent Romary)
